Seven years of Bryn Bryn: My House Events

Seven years of Bryn Bryn: My House Events

This month I am celebrating seven years in business with myself!! Every year feels like a milestone, and this year I wanted to do something fun. I’m going to share about one project I did each year from 2016 until now. This gives me an opportunity to shout out a few of my wonderful clients and look back over my creative journey so far.

2016 was an easy choice because this client is a foundational part of the Bryn Bryn origin story. 2016 was the year I quit my full time job (where I was doing sales, brand education and trade shows in the fashion world) to breathe and discover what was next. I was living in New Orleans at the time and my truly badass friend and businesswoman, Barrie Schwartz, asked me if I would do some freelance work for her company My House Events (then called My House NOLA). My House is a women-owned catering company cultivating a more equitable events industry by creating new revenue streams for seriously talented BIPOC, LGBTQ+ and women chefs.

I functioned as My House’s brand manager til 2018, defining our brand story and ensuring it was told succinctly and cohesively across platforms. I enjoyed identifying our values as a team and crafting the language to share them on social, on our website, in pitch decks and beyond. I remember supporting the rollout of the first ever food truck festival in Louisiana and staring at a lot of mouth-watering food pics I couldn’t eat because I was already living in Oregon. My House has flourished massively (and now operates out of both LA and Louisiana) and has outgrown a lot of the copy I wrote back in the day, but I discovered some familiar words on their “Our Why” page on a recent visit to the site.

Working with My House was both fun and foundational–I learned a lot about brand strategy and storytelling, which continue to be creative pillars. Most importantly, it gave me the confidence I needed to trust in my skills and intuition and start my own business. Thanks Bar <3

Something I’ve missed a lot working for myself is professional mentorship. I haven’t had many opportunities to work closely with and learn from skilled creative strategists or business owners. It was (and continues to be) a pleasure to learn from Barrie. I hope to one day absorb some of her confidence, keen discernment and business savvy. More recently, she’s launched her own meal prep and private chef company based in LA called the Saucy Table. If you’re in that area, I highly recommend you enjoy some of her saucy cooking!

More soon :)
